Challenge

Bringing rotational moulding to bodywork components with complex geometries, with the precision required by the automotive sector. The Softcar project called on us to develop custom moulds for the main body panels and for doors featuring an innovative opening system.

The challenge lay in the mould: handling large dimensions and complex shapes while maintaining surface quality, dimensional stability and consistent precision. A project that pushed us to explore new applications of rotational moulding, turning design requirements into concrete production solutions.

Approach

We started by analysing the components and their functional requirements, using 3D design to define the characteristics of the moulds and tackle the most critical areas. Every choice was developed by relating the geometry of the part, the quality of the surfaces and the moulding process.

We then produced aluminium moulds through 5-axis CNC milling, a process that allowed us to accurately reproduce the shapes defined in the project. Attention to construction details was essential, especially for the most complex components such as the doors, where form and function had to strike a precise balance.

Fine-tuning the moulds and optimising the process completed the journey, with the aim of obtaining components of consistent quality that meet the project requirements. Softcar shows how we approach a non-standard request: we study the product, develop the solution and build the mould that gives it shape.
